What is LP Gas?
LP Gas stands for liquefied petroleum gas. Generally, the term means that
the gas contains a high percentage of propane gas, although it could contain some percentage of
propylene, butane and butylene.
Generally, we are most interested in propane. Propane has a chemical formula
of C3H8 ( 3 carbon and 8 hydrogen atoms) per molecule. Propane is used extensively as a
pressurized fuel and is commonly shipped and stored in cylinders and tanks. These tanks can
range in size from the small 1 quart containers to large 500 gallon tanks.
In the mower business, we use tanks from 1 quart size to cylinders that contain approximately 7.4 gallons of fuel.
Proper handling of fuel is very important to Metro Lawn. Please see
the other safety topics on the left menu that describe the proper procedures for handling cylinders and propane fuel.
